Al Aynayn Castle

Al Aynayn Castle lies in the village of the same name in the Al Dhahirah Governorate in Oman.

The Wadi Hawasinah that runs from the town of Ibri, north to the coast at Al Khabourah, was always an important route from the coastal plain, through the Hajar Mountains, into the Al Dhahirah region. The twin settlements of Al Aynayn and Al Araqi are situated north of Ibri, on the left bank of the wadi, and both have their own castle.

I was not able to find any historical information about the castle.

Where Al Araqi Castle was restored several years ago, the castle of Al Aynayn is still ruinous. Also, its architecture looks very different from Al Araqi. It seems to have had large round towers at its western and eastern corners.

Al Aynayn Castle can freely be visited. The entrance to the main building however is seriously bricked up, as are the windows at the lowest level. Apparently someone really doesn't want people going inside. Too bad, I was very curious about its interior.
