Courrière Castle

Courrière Castle, locally known as Château de Courrière, lies in the village of the same name, in the province of Namur in the Wallonia region in Belgium.

Courrière Castle is not a real castle but a fortified farm; a castle farm or 'château-ferme' as it is called in French.

It was built around 1622 as a rectangular building with 2 inner courtyards. It was built out of sandstone and limestone, circled by a moat and entered over a drawbridge. It kept its agricultural function up until 1976. After that it slowly deteriorated.

In 1987 it was acquired by the Catholic Scouting Federation. From 1992 up until recently they have, in several phases, restored the castle. They now use the castle for training and cultural purposes.

Courrière Castle can freely be visited, although its interior only as a guest of the events that are held there. A nicely restored castle farm.
