I visited this castle in 2007.
Meysembourg Castle lies south west of the village of Larochette, north east of the town of Mersch,
in Luxembourg.
The domain of Meysembourg was first mentioned in the second half of the 12th century as Meiseburch.
In 1245 ownership of the castle transferred to the Lords of Brandenburg.
In later centuries the Lords of Meysembourg were always true supporters of the Luxembourg dynasties.
In 1453 the castle was destroyed during the Burgundian War. In later centuries it was destroyed once
more.
In the beginning of the 18th century a new castle was built on the site of its medieval predecessor.
The present castle however was built in 1880 on the same site. There are no visible remains of the
medieval Meysembourg Castle.
The historical information above was all I was able to find. So if anyone knows more, please mail
me.
In August 2000 the castle was host to the Hot Air Balloon European Championship.
At present it is private property and can not be visited. The castle is hidden away in a quiet wooded
area and has a somewhat Disney like feel to it.
Larochette Castle is near by.
