I visited this castle in 1998.
Castle Tioram lies on a little, rocky islet, surrounded by wetlands in Loch Moidart in Scotland.
It's location is a little off the beaten track, so you will not see to many tourists there. When I
visited it, access was prohibited due to the dangerous conditionsof the walls.
Castle Tioram dates back to the 13th century. It was the principal stronghold of the MacRuaris and also
the ancestral home of the MacDonalds of Clanranald. The castle is believed to have been set on fire in
1715 on the orders of Allan of Clanranald in order to prevent it falling into enemy hands. Since then
is has lain derelict and has been deteriorating fast in the last 10 years.
