Al Khoud Castle

Al Khoud Castle

Al Khoud Castle lies in the village of Al Khawd in the Muscat Governorate in Oman.

Al Khoud Castle is said to date back to the early 18th century. That is all the historical information I was able to find about it. If you know more, please mail me. South of the castle is the old village of Al Khawd where there is Al Bait Al Aud Castle, which is said to be a 100 years younger than Al Khoud. I guess their histories will have strong links.

The castle is situated on a rocky ridge, next to the Wadi Al Khoud. It had a rectangular ground plan. What remains today is mostly the north wall, with the gate and a round tower at its eastern corner, and a round tower which was part of the south wall and stands at the south end of the ridge. At the north end of the ridge are also some ruins, which seem to have been some sort of forward bastion for the castle.

Al Khoud Castle is freely accessible. A nice castle ruin.
