Kirnav Castle

Kirnav Castle, locally known as Kirnav Kalesi, lies on a hill northwest of the village of Çayağzi, in the province of Ardahan in Turkey.

When Kirnav Castle was built is unknown. The building techniques used in the castle walls are said to be similar to that of Ardahan Castle, which would place construction of the castle somewhere in the 16th century, during Ottoman rule.

I could not find any historical information about Kirnav Castle. If you know more, please mail me.

Kirnav Castle has a somewhat triangular ground plan. It probably used to control a location where the road to the north, to Hanak, crossed the river. The way several wall fragments are scattered around the castle, looks to me as if the walls were destroyed with dynamite.

Kirnav Castle is freely accessible. A nice castle ruin with beautiful views of the surrounding plains.
