Al Markhiyah Tower

Al Markhiyah Tower lies in the Planning Zone 33 quarter in the city of Doha in Qatar.

I don't know when Al Markhiyah Tower was built, but I think in the early 20th century. I also don't know if the tower actually has a name. I named it the Al Markhiyah Tower as Al Markhiyah is the closest historical settlement. When it was built it was probably part of a small self-contained walled family residence, situated in a more or less empty plain. This tower would have been a place of refuge for the family in times of turmoil.

At present the tower is situated in a suburb with long concrete walls around the houses. The tower is incorporated into one of these walls and does not seem to have any use. This all makes the tower look a bit lost and out of place. It can not be visited. A nice tower, I especially like the ornamented balustrade.
