Al Rawdha Castle

Al Rawdha Castle

Al Rawdha Castle lies in the village of the same name in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate in Oman.

Al Rawdha Castle is said to have been built during the 17th century by the Imam Sultan bin Saif bin Malik of the Al Yarubi tribe. This was all the historical information I was able to find. If you know more, please mail me.

The castle sits on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by the village and a large palm grove. It has a rectangular ground plan with one round tower on its northeastern corner. The 2nd tower near the southeast corner looks like it is connected to the castle, but for some reason isn't.

It was restored in recent years to its present appearance.

Al Rawdha Castle can be visited for a small fee. A beautiful castle. On several hills in and around the village there were more, ruined towers and large structures that may have served as castles.
