Al Sirah Tower

Al Sirah Tower

Al Sirah Tower, also sometimes spelled as Serah, stands in the town of Quriyat, which is also sometimes spelled as Qurayyat, in the Muscat Governorate in Oman.

The Al Sirah Tower stands on a rocky islet, situated at the mouth of Quriyat harbor. It is also known as Imam Nasir bin Murshid Fort. This imam, who ruled from 1624 to 1649, took the Fort of Curiate (present-day Quriyat) from the Portuguese in the 1640s. So, due only to the fact the tower is linked to him, I would guess that the tower dates back to the 17th century.

This D-shaped tower most probably served as a watch tower. It is actually one of 3 fortifications in this town, together with Quriyat Castle in the center of town and Al Kharmooh Tower in the south end of town.

Al Sirah Tower was inaccessible when I visited, but apparently it can be reached on foot during low tides.
