Aalst Castle

Aalst Castle was a former castle that was situated in the village of Aalst, in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands.
Aalst Castle, first mentioned in 870 AD, was probably built around that time by Boudewijn II, Lord of Heusden. His castle is believed to have been a keep with walls 2 meters thick. Boudewijn is also thought to have founded the castles of Brakel and Poederoijen. Throughout its history, the castle was owned by the Van Lynden family, among others.
It apparently was already a ruin by the 17th century, and the last visible remains of the castle were demolished in 1875. Images of the castle show it as a likely square or rectangular structure with a wide moat.
I don't know who created the top drawing, but it closely resembles the first drawing in the gallery below. One probably used the other as a reference.
I haven't found any other historical information about this castle. If you know more, please email me.
Currently, nothing remains of Aalst Castle, and the site where it once stood is now occupied by a primary school.
