Bulgaden Eady Castle

Bulgaden Eady Castle

Bulgaden Eady Castle lies in the townland of the same name, in County Limerick, in Ireland.

I was not able to find much historical info about this medieval tower house. It was probably built by the Anglo-Normans in the 13th century.

It was once held by an Eady/Odo Lacy, of Bruree, who was himself a descendant of the Norman De Lacy family. One source says he already held it in 1583, while another states it was granted to him in 1612. In 1652, however, at the end of the Irish Confederate Wars, the castle was confiscated by the English, and afterward given to Captain Hugh Massy I, around 1666.

At present the ruined Bulgaden Eady Castle is situated in a field, behind the grounds of the Bulgaden National School. It now consists of 2 ruined stories, but originally would have had at least one more.

Bulgaden Eady Castle can not be visited, but is easily seen from the public road.
