Coolnamuck Castle

Coolnamuck Castle lies in the townland of Coolnamuck Demesne, in County Waterford, in Ireland.
Not much is known about Coolnamuck Castle, only that it was probably built around 1585-88 by a Gerald Wall.
The castle is a tower house which was situated in a square bawn with flanking towers. Of the tower, only the south wall and the onsets of the east and west wall remain, but it still shows nice architectural elements, like a bartizan, a chimney, and stairs. Remains of the towers and the bawn wall have largely disappeared beneath the undergrowth, trees en bushes.
It is situated in a field on the west side of a small ravine.
Coolnamuck Castle stands in the midst of farmland, so it can not be visited. A nice castle remnant, too bad it and the interior of the bawn are so much overgrown.
