Éragny-sur-Epte Castle

Éragny-sur-Epte Castle

Éragny-sur-Epte Castle, locally known as Manoir de Princes de Conti, lies in the village of Éragny-sur-Epte in the Oise department in France.

Although I call this a castle because of its appearance, it is actually a manor house. It was built in the first decades of the 16th century by the Du Perthuis family, who were Lords of Éragny since the Middle Ages. They held it until the 17th century, when it was sold to cover debts.

In 1736, it was acquired by Louis-François de Bourbon-Conti, Prince of Conti. And although his son; Louis-François-Joseph, sold it again in 1781, it was known as the Manor of the Princes of Conti since. Several other owners followed, who mostly rented it out.

The manor was partly destroyed by a fire around 1859. Since then, the outbuildings in the grounds of the manor are part of a farm. The manor itself served as a residence for the local mayor for some time in the mid-20th century.

Éragny-sur-Epte Castle can not be visited. Not very interesting, but nice to take a look at when you pass through the area.
