Frifir Castle

Frifir Castle lies in the town of Ibra in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate in Oman.

The town of Ibra is one of the oldest settlements in Oman, dating back to before the arrival of Islam in Oman, so that would be before the 630s. Frifir Castle is situated in the palm groves north of the old town of Ibra. These palm groves constitute the suburbs of the town and are also dotted with lots of towers; defensive ones in the palm groves and watchtowers on the surrounding hills.

The castle, which seemed to be in a central spot in relation to all the towers, has a circular ground plan, which is uncommon in Oman, as I have seen. Save from its name, I know nothing about it. If you know anything; please mail me.

Frifir Castle is freely accessible. Its interior however is very much overgrown, and thus hard to traverse. A nice ruin.
