Khor Grama Tower

Khor Grama Tower

The Khor Grama Tower stands in a nameless hamlet west of the village of Ras Al Hadd, in the Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate in Oman.

I know absolutely nothing about this tower. One source called it the "Portuguese Tower" without any other info. But as a lot of coastal fortifications get attributed to the Portuguese just because of their age, I doubt this attribution. Also because the castle in Ras Al Hadd was purposely built by the local tribes to successfully keep the Portuguese out of this area.

Another source called it the "Khor Grama fortress" and because the quiet hamlet lies at the southern shore of the Khor Grama Lagoon, I choose to name it the Khor Grama Tower.

It consists of a round tower on a rocky knoll, surrounded by a somewhat elliptical defensive wall that follows the shape of the top of the knoll. It is very ruinous.

The Khor Grama Tower is freely accessible. A nice forgotten ruin.
