Kinzi Castle

Kinzi Castle, locally known as Kinzi Kalesi, lies on a ridge above the village of Bağdaşen, in the province of Ardahan in Turkey.

When Kinzi Castle was built is not known. But based on its location and substructural features, it is believed to date back to Urartian times (860-590 BC). The rectangular castle measures 17×25 meters and also had a bailey on its southeastern side. Of this bailey, later used by Seljuks and Ottomans, only fragmentary foundations remain. The location of the gate can not be traced.

The ruin of Kinzi Castle is freely accessible. A very nice ruin, I especially like the machicolations at the top of the walls.
