Al Muladdah Castle

Al Muladdah Castle lies in the quiet town of the same name, in the Al Batinah South Governorate in Oman.

Al Muladdah Fort has a square ground plan and with 4 round corner towers. It is completely built out of mud bricks with some outer facing of rocks and is now slowly crumbling away. I suspect the fort was a so-called 'sur'. A 'sur' is the Omani denomination of a simple communal fortification. They were built, maintained and used as a place of refuge by the villagers in times of danger.

At present the ruin of Al Muladdah Fort is freely accessible. A nice ruin, although it seems as if the local goats go there to die, because there were a lot of goat carcasses lying around.
