Al Musannah Castle

Al Musannah Castle, sometimes also spelled as Mussanah, Musanaah or even Masnaah, lies in the quiet coastal town of the same name, in the Al Batinah South Governorate in Oman.

I was not able to find any historical information about this castle at all. If you know anything; please mail me. I think it dates back to the Portuguese reign over the region, so that would make it date back to the 16th century.

The castle has a square ground plan with 2 round towers on opposite corners. It sits in the corner of a larger rectangular enclosure. The enclosure has another round corner tower and a square one. Inside the castle is a small courtyard with a well. A lot of the rooms have cupboards with shelves, so I think the castle was used as the residence of a local 'wali' (governor).

At present Al Musannah Castle can freely be visited during opening hours. I really loved the interior of this castle. Recommended!
