Nevões Tower

Nevões Tower

The Nevões Tower, locally known as Torre de Nevões, stands above the village of Tabuado in the Tâmega e Sousa region in Portugal.

Local tradition places the first fortification on the site as early as the 12th century, although the current tower was mainly built between the late 15th and early 16th centuries. It served as a nobleman’s fortified residence, part of the broader wave of 'casas-torre' (tower houses) that appeared throughout northern Portugal at the end of the Middle Ages.

In the 17th century, the complex was expanded with an L-shaped residential wing, during which the tower was also modified, transforming it from a fortification into a manor house. Another wing was added to its north side in the 1970s.

The tower, constructed from granite, features a rectangular plan with 3 floors and slender crenellations.

Today, the Nevões Tower is private property and not open to the public. Internet sources state that it is used as a hospitality and event venue, but to me, it looked disused.
