Salm Castle

Salm Castle, locally known as Château des Comtes de Salm, is situated on a hill above the small town of Salmchâteau, in the Luxembourg province in the Wallonia region in Belgium.

I couldn't find much historical information about Salm Castle, which is strange since it was the seat of the powerful Counts of Salm.

One source says Salm Castle was built on 9th-century foundations during the 14th century. Another claims the castle was built in the early 12th century and completed in 1150. None of the sources provide clues about the castle's demise, only that it was torn down at the end of the 18th century to be sold as building materials.

That's all the information I found. If you know more, please let me know.

Currently, all that remains is the sturdy gatehouse, which was restored in the 1960s. Behind it is a private home, and its residents highly value their privacy, as shown by the signs everywhere. There is a hill directly east of the gate containing more ruined foundations of Salm Castle, but it is too overgrown with trees and underbrush to see much from below.
