Samad Al Shan Towers

Samad Al Shan Towers

The Samad Al Shan Towers stand above the village of Samad Al Shan, in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate in Oman.

The village of Samad Al Shan is spread out along a couple of oases in the valley of the Wadi Samad. Human settlement here has been attested to date back to at least the Late Iron Age.

About these towers I know nothing. I don't think they even have a name, I just named them after the village. I guess they date back to the 18th/19th century. They probably served to protect the village against thieves and rebels. Near the towers are several other indistinctive ruins. So maybe they were part of a larger fortification?

They are within viewing distance of the 19th century Bait Al Khabib Castle and also the ruined Al Khuzam Castle is nearby.

The Samad Al Shan Towers are freely accessible. They are nice but don't warrant a visit on their own. But together with the aforementioned castles, the village makes for an enjoyable visit.
