Suwadi Alwa Fort

Suwadi Alwa Fort, also called Sawadi Fort, lies in the quiet town of the same name, in the Al Batinah South Governorate in Oman.

I don't know anything about this fort. If you know anything, please mail me.

Suwadi Alwa Fort has a square ground plan and probably had 4 round corner towers. It is completely built out of mud bricks and is now slowly crumbling away. I suspect the fort was a so-called 'sur'. A 'sur' is the Omani denomination of a simple communal fortification. They were built, maintained and used as a place of refuge by the villagers in times of danger.

At present the ruin of Suwadi Alwa Fort is freely accessible. A nice ruin, being threatened by building activities directly next to it. Its interior looks as if it is used as a garbage dump, sadly enough.
