Torreelen Castle

Torreelen Castle, locally known as Hoeve De Torreelen, lies in the fields southwest of the village of Wulveringem, in the province of West Flanders in the Flemish region in Belgium. Its local name literally translates to "The Towers Farm."
I couldn't find any historical information about this castle beyond the fact that it was built in the late 14th or early 15th century. It was a rectangular castle flanked by four round towers. In 1640, it burned down after being struck by lightning. Afterward, its ruins, including three towers and some other wall sections, were turned into a farm.
During World War I, the castle was only 14 kilometers from the front lines. At that time, the two remaining towers lost their upper parts. During World War II, it served as a medical post.
Today, Torreelen Castle is private property and used as a residence. It cannot be visited, but it can easily be seen from the public road. A nice house! Beauvoorde Castle is nearby.
