Torsiac Castle

Torsiac Castle, locally known as Château de Torsiac, lies south of the village of Léotoing, in the Haute-Loire department in France.

It is said that the castle was originally built as a commandery by Templars, guarding a ford in the Alagnon river. A Lord of Torsiac was however first mentioned in 1268.

The oldest part of the present castle is a rectangular keep built in the 14th century. Somewhere between the 15th and 17th century it was enlarged when a main building and towers were added to the original keep. The castle was extensively restored in the 2nd half of the 19th century, between 1853 and 1902, which resulted in its present appearance.

At present Torsiac Castle is privately inhabited and thus can not be visited. Online I read that its park could be visited but when I came by this was not the case. Too bad but still a nice detour when you visit Léotoing Castle nearby.
