Trédion Castle

Trédion Castle, locally known as Château de Trédion, lies next to the village of the same name, in the Morbihan department in France.

Trédion Castle was probably built around 1350 and was owned by the Dukes of Brittany. It was first mentioned in 1427. At that time, it was more of a manor/hunting lodge than an actual castle. Until the beginning of the 17th century, the fief of the castle was linked to that of Largoët Castle.

During the centuries, the castle was owned by several families, first of noble descent, and later commoners. In 1518, Francis I of France stayed for one night at the castle. And in 1570, Catherine de 'Medici resided in the castle for two weeks.

In 1834, Trédion Castle was sold to a Hippolyte du Fresne de Virel, who installed ironworks in the castle. In 1851, his son started to reconstruct the castle, which by then was just a building without any defensible architectural elements. He had the castle enlarged and castellated by building several towers.

At present, the castle can be hired as a wedding venue. A nice château.
