Turina Castle

Turina Castle, locally known as Utvrda Turina, lies above the town of Skradin, in the county of Šibenik-Knin in Croatia.
The first fortification at this site, a rocky ridge between two valleys near the Krka River, was a prehistoric hill fort built by the Liburnians.
The medieval castle Turina was constructed during the rule of Paul I Šubić of Bribir, between 1273 and 1312. The town, which existed in Roman times as Scardona, prospered under the House of Šubić, who were bans (rulers) of Croatia, making Skradin their capital.
From 1522 to 1684, Skradin was under Ottoman control. This was followed by Venetian rule until 1794. I couldn't find out exactly when the castle was abandoned, but I believe it happened in the 19th century, after which locals likely used it as a quarry.
The ruins of Skradin Castle aren't much to look at, but the view from the top is beautiful. Skradin itself is a charming little town, albeit somewhat touristy.
