Yokuşlu Castle

Yokuşlu Castle, locally known as Yokuşlu Kalesi or Nihah Kalesi, lies in the valley of the river Çoruh, in the province of Artvin in Turkey.

Strangely enough, the actual village of Yokuşlu lies some 9 kilometers to the south, up in the mountains. The name Nihah is the old name of the village.

I could not find any historical information about Yokuşlu Castle, other than that it was probably built during the Middle Ages. So, if you know more; please mail me.

What remains at present of Yokuşlu Castle are mostly the eastern walls, which contain a gate and a square keep.

Yokuşlu Castle is freely accessible, although there is no real path from the main road nearby to the castle. A very nice castle. I hope it won't be affected too much by the future reservoir of the Yusufeli Dam, which is being built at present.
