Abisi Castle
Abisi Castle lies north of the village with the same name, in the Kareli municipality in the Shida Kartli region in Georgia.
According to an inscription on a stone in the castle, it was built in 1754 by the order of Zaal Makhviladze. I don't have any historical information about the castle. If you know more; please mail me.
Originally it was a small square tower house with round towers at its 4 corners. Later a square tower was added against its northern facade and a church on its southern facade. This now gives the castle a somewhat strange look of a rectangle with 2 towers projecting from its longer sides.
Around 2016/2017 the ruined Abisi Castle was rebuilt. It was also walled off with an ugly wall made of concrete blocks. Also a new religious building was built south of it. Apparently it is taken in use as a nunnery.
At present Abisi Castle can not be visited.
