Al Bithnah Fort

Al Bithnah Fort lies next to the village of the same name, in the emirate of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.

I don't know exactly when Al Bithnah Fort was built. Most sources mention 1735 as the founding date. Others say it was built in the late 18th century as a result of Wahabi incursions in the area, following the Battle of Bithnah that occurred here in 1745.

Whatever its founding date, it holds a controlling view over the Wadi Ham and the village on the other side of the wadi. The wadi used to be the main route from the coastal city of Fujairah through the Hajar Mountains to Manama on the other side. It was restored in the first decade of the 21st century.

I don't have any historical information about the fort. If you know more; please mail me.

Al Bithnah Fort has a rectangular ground plan with 2 sturdy round corner towers on the side of the wadi.

At present Bithnah Fort can be visited for free but the lonely caretaker goes out of his way to show you the fort, so a tip is nice. A great fort.
