Dunmore Castle
Dunmore Castle lies in the village of Dunmore East, in County Waterford in Ireland.
Dunmore Castle was built around 1640 by Lord Power of Curraghmore, who already owned a large amount of property in the area. It was built on a cliff overlooking the strand, about 200 meters from St. Andrew's Church. A promontory fort probably existed here before.
Apparently the castle was a beautiful sight, but by the middle of the next century it was already falling into ruin. Now just this one circular tower remains.
The tower is sometimes erroneously called a Round Tower.
This remnant of Dunmore Castle can freely be visited from the outside. It can not be entered. A simple tower ruin in a pleasant seaside village.
