Liwa Castle

Liwa Castle lies east of the town of Liwa Al Jadidah, in the Al Batinah North Governorate in Oman.

Liwa Castle was probably built during the 17th century. Later it became the residence of the local 'wali' (governor). This is all the information I was able to find about the castle. If you know more; please mail me.

This large castle has a somewhat square ground plan with round corner towers. There is an extra round tower adjacent to the entrance. In the middle stands a square keep.

At present Liwa Castle can be visited for a small fee during opening hours. A great castle; I especially liked the interiors of the keep. Recommended!
