Marana Tower

Marana Tower stands in the village of the same name, in the Kaspi municipality in the Shida Kartli region in Georgia.

This tower has a square ground plan with circular turrets protruding from the midst of its 4 sides; a design which I haven't seen anywhere else in Georgia. It was used as a place of refuge for the villagers in times of trouble. I guess it dates back to the 17th/18th century.

At present Marana Tower can not be visited as it is situated in someone's back garden. A simple but different tower ruin. Tkviavi Castle and Tirdznisi Tower are close by.
